Why We’re Withholding Our U.S. Themed Cufflinks, And Proud of It!
Posted by Daniel Feuer on
At pranga & co, we’ve always been about more than just fashion. Our interchangeable cufflinks let people wear stories on their sleeves—literally. Usually, we’re excited to share our entire collection, including our anchors made from authentic U.S. banknotes. However, in light of the current trade environment, we feel compelled to put the sale of our U.S., themed pieces on hold until the United States removes its tariffs on Canadian goods.
Recent announcements by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and various provincial leaders highlight the serious impact of these tariffs on Canadian businesses and workers. Despite Canada’s long history of amicable trade relations with the U.S., the imposition of a 25% levy on products crossing the border is anything but friendly. Retaliatory measures, like pulling American liquor from provincial liquor stores and deferring certain taxes, underscore the gravity of the situation. Such steps aren’t taken lightly; they reflect deep concerns over job losses and the broader effects on our local economy.
At pranga & co, we admire the creativity and spirit of artisans everywhere, including those in the U.S. But as a small Canadian company, our priorities naturally lie in safeguarding local workers, suppliers, and communities. Meanwhile, Canadians are being urged to buy local and avoid American goods until these trade barriers are lifted. We believe it’s vital for businesses like ours to demonstrate solidarity with our fellow entrepreneurs and customers by taking a firm stand.
Of course, we hope this trade dispute ends swiftly and amicably. Historically, our nations have benefited from open trade, vibrant cultural exchange, and a shared respect for innovation. Until then, we can’t in good conscience release accessories that celebrate U.S. currency when the environment around Canadian goods is so fraught. We don’t want to profit from a design that’s currently tied, however symbolically, to an economic rift that hurts Canadian families.
In the meantime, we continue offering our other cufflink anchors made with Canadian materials that tell our own stories and keep more resources circulating within our borders. We’re confident that once these tariffs are removed, we can return to showcasing the global inspirations that make our brand so unique. Until then, our stance is clear: we’re holding off on U.S., themed products and standing by Canadians in this challenging trade climate.
